Overview

Problem. Narrow-band emitters (blue LEDs, laser and stage lighting, neon) produce chromaticities outside common working gamuts. In RGB this shows up as values below zero. Downstream it appears as hue shifts, flat clipped regions and dark fringing at the edges of light sources.

Method. For each pixel, Gamut Guard computes the per-channel distance from the achromatic axis, normalised by the maximum channel. Distances below a threshold are unchanged. Distances above it are compressed with a smooth, invertible power function, so that a chosen reach maps exactly onto the gamut boundary. Neutrals have zero distance and are untouched by construction.

Parameters

  • Strength (0–1)
  • Protect Saturation: shifts the per-channel thresholds (defaults 0.815 / 0.803 / 0.880)
  • Cyan, Magenta and Yellow Reach (defaults 1.147 / 1.264 / 1.312)
  • Rolloff Hardness (default 1.2)
  • View: Output · Affected Area · Change ×10

Placement. First node after the input transform. Working encodings: DaVinci Intermediate, ACEScct, or scene linear.

Recommended for concerts, nightlife, music video, live broadcast and LED-volume work. Requires Resolve Studio (DCTL).
